NSFAS Funding 2024: Apply For NSFAS

In 1991, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) was born with a mission: to support South African students in their pursuit of academic dreams.

Fast forward to 2024, NSFAS continues to play a crucial role in empowering students socially and economically. Let’s break down the essential details of NSFAS Funding for 2024 in an easy-to-understand manner.

NSFAS and Its Vision

NSFAS stands for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme, a government initiative assisting South African learners in achieving their academic goals. Established in 1991, NSFAS has been a key player in providing financial support to those in need. The organization strives to ensure that every learner, regardless of financial or physical challenges, has equal access to tertiary education.

NSFAS Funding Program for 2024

For those facing financial struggles or in need of financial support, NSFAS has rolled out a funding program to assist learners pursuing tertiary studies.

If you’re applying to the University of South Africa (UNISA), the financial support includes tuition fees, book allowances, and personal care allowances. For other public universities or TVET colleges, you may receive support for accommodation, living allowances, learning materials, and personal care.

Additionally, candidates with disabilities will receive extra support covering tuition fees, assistive devices, accommodation, meals, and transport.

NSFAS Requirements and Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for NSFAS funding, you need to meet specific criteria:

  1. Be a South African citizen.
  2. Pursue or plan to pursue studies in a South African public university or TVET college.
  3. The gross annual income of your parents or guardian should be less than R350,000 per year.
  4. Preference is given to learners from needy families or those receiving SASSA grants.
  5. Learners with disabilities and an annual family income of less than R600,000 per year are also preferred.

Once qualified, funding will support you until the completion of your chosen qualification, eliminating the need for reapplication.
