Checking NSFAS Status

To check your NSFAS status, follow these simple steps:

  1. Visit the NSFAS website at
  2. Click on the myNSFAS tab and log in with your username and password.
  3. Once logged in, click on “Track Funding Progress” to view your NSFAS application status.

There are alternative methods if you encounter issues with myNSFAS:

  • Dial 12067327# on your cellphone and follow the prompts.
  • WhatsApp +27 78 519 8006 and request your status.
  • Send an SMS with your ID number to 31144.
  • Call the NSFAS Contact Centre at 0800 0 NSFAS (0800 0 67327).

NSFAS Application Status Stages

Understanding the different stages of your NSFAS application status is essential:

NSFAS Allowances in 2024

NSFAS provides monthly allowances to support students financially. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Direct Payments: Allowances are directly deposited into your account after the 25th of every month.
  • Allowance Breakdown:
    • Living: R16,500 per year for university students, R6,000 for TVET college students.
    • Accommodation: R61,500 per year for catered, R45,000 for self-catered.
    • Learning Materials: R5,460 for university students, R3,000 for TVET college students.
    • Transport: R7,780 annual allowance if you live farther than 10 km from campus.
  • Timing for University Students: Ten allowance payments spread across the months from February to November.

NSFAS Payment Schedule

The payment schedule for the first few months of 2024 is as follows:

  • January: Upfront payments for tuition and accommodation to universities by January 31st.
  • February and March: Bi-weekly payments to students instead of monthly.
  • From April onwards, standard monthly payments will be made at the end of each month.
