After completing your Matric, there comes a time when you want to obtain your matric certificate. Here’s where and how you can get it.

Options for Obtaining a Matric Certificate

You can collect your Matric certificate from either:

  1. The examination center where you wrote your Matric
  2. The school where you wrote your Matric

Replacing a Matric Certificate

You must apply for a replacement if your original Matric certificate is lost or damaged. You can apply:

  • In person at any Department of Basic Education (DBE) offices
  • Online on the official Umalusi application portal

Requirements for Replacement Application

For the application, you’ll need:

  • An affidavit stating what happened
  • The original national/senior certificate (if damaged)

  2. Enter your exam number
  3. Results will be sent to your phone. Charges apply.

Matric Certificate Types

A Matric certificate comes in different types based on the level of achievement:

National Senior Certificate Pass

  • 40% minimum for home language
  • 40% for two other subjects
  • Pass at least six issues with 30% or more

Higher Certificate Pass

  • 40% for home language
  • 40% in two other subjects
  • Minimum of 30% for three different subjects

Diploma Pass

  • 40% in the home language
  • 40% for three high-credit subjects
  • 30% for two other languages

Bachelor’s Degree Pass

  • 40% for home language
  • Minimum 50% for four high-credit subjects
  • At least 30% for two other subjects

Cost of Matric Certificate Collection

Collecting your certificate after completing Matric is free. The cost for a replacement certificate and a combination of results is R164, payable through bank deposit, ATM, or EFT.

Certificate Collection Locations

When you’ve applied for a replacement certificate through the Department of Basic Education, collect it from their offices upon completion. After completing Matric, order your certificate from the exam center or school.

A replacement certificate takes about four to six weeks. If your records are not on the system, retrieval from the Archives and loading may extend the duration.

Validity of Matric Results

Matric results do not expire. They are valid for your lifetime. You can replace your certificate through the Department of Basic Education if you lose it.

  • NSC/BACH – Qualifies for a Bachelor’s degree
  • NSC/DIP – Qualifies for a diploma
  • NSC/HC – Qualifies for a higher certificate

  • NOT ACHIEVED – Does not qualify for National Senior Certificate
